Andrew Irving has been Director of the French House since 1995. Originally from the Boston area, he received his PhD in French from the UW-Madison in 1997 where he teaches French language and literature and is also an advisor for undergraduate majors.
Kelsey Roy is completing her PhD in French at the UW-Madison. She came to us from Coon Rapids, MN, where taking French was not an option. Once at the UW, she certainly got her fill. Kelsey has lived at the French House as a undergraduate, worked in the kitchen, and now is our Resident Assistant.
Betsy has been the Head Chef at the French House for over 30 years. An Eastern European native with serious roots in the Midwest, Betsy has perfected the art of preparing exquisite meals for crowds of 30 to 100 at a time. Betsy has also become an expert at revamping challenging international recipes for the common everyday cook. She currently teaches cooking classes at All Through the House in Stoughton.
Chaytan is in his second (non-consecutive) year as our Assistant, on loan from the Université d’Aix-Marseille. One of the lucky few with dual American / French citizenship, Chaytan helps the residents navigate the connections between American and French culture, all the while helping us keep our French current (and correct).
Without David, breakfast would not be so delicious, lunch would not come off so easily, our special events would not run so smoothly, but our waistlines would certainly be thinner. A Madison native, David brings old-home recipes to the French House and serves them up with plenty of humor.
Sue Grass is the Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of French & Italian at UW-Madison. Sue has been with the department since 1982 and has been providing invaluable help to the French House for almost as long.
