Since my retirement, French has been in a very bad place at my school. I'm still teaching a couple of small sections of French for now, but my position isn't being replaced. Although I don't plan on attending your meeting at the French House due to distance, I would love to hear some of the ideas that are offered. Thanks for what you have already written.

Que les Américains aient été de grands pourvoyeurs de toutes sortes de produits pendant et après le débarquement en Normandie est une chose certaine. En revanche, l'explication du mot "Amerilot" est un peu bizarre. On entend plus souvent en France le terme d'"Amerloques" et plus rarement d'"Amerlots" qui est probablement et plus simplement la contraction du premier (on dit aussi, de façon moins péjorative et plus affective, "les caincains" en parlant des Américains). Ce sont des constructions argotiques. On retrouve le suffixe "loque" dans loufoque par exemple, mot issu du Louchebem, l'argot des bouchers. [http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largonji]

Quant aux prostitués, il ne faut pas oublier que les Américains, comme les Russes, comme toutes les armées en campagne et victorieuses, ont violé des milliers de femmes, anglaises, françaises et surtout allemandes. Ce qui explique peut-être aussi le ressentis vis-à-vis des troupes américaines après guerre. Mais c'est une histoire silencieuse...
