Residence at the French House during the summer term is open only to students, academic professionals or conference attendees who are participating in one of the following programs: PFMP Summer Institute, PHAGES conference.

Accommodations:  Participants will have an individual room with a shared bathroom. The French House will provide bed linens, pillow and towel. We do not offer toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.) or a small wash cloths (gants de toilette).  No meals will be provided (but there is a kitchenette (coin cuisine) at your disposal). There are numerous restaurants and cafés just a 5 minute walk from the House. There is WiFi available. Unfortunately the French House is not handicapped accessible.

Arrival and Departure:

PFMP participants: You can arrive on or after June 16 and remain until or before July 27.

PHAGES meeting participants:  You can arrive on or after August 3rd and remain until or before August 10.

Transportation to Madison and the French House: The French House does not have a person on duty (e.g., a concierge) at all times. So it is very important that we know when you will arrive. In the form below, we will ask for when you plan to arrive and how.

Flying into Madison: Sometimes you can find an affordable flight directly into Madison. If you do, you can take a taxi or an Uber to the French House, 633 North Frances Street.

Flying into Milwaukee: Sometimes a flight into Milwaukee can be the most affordable option.  The “Badger Bus” will take you from the airport to a location only 2 minutes from the French House (see map below right). (Please note, if you arrive late into Milwaukee, you may not be able to take a bus that same day.)

Flying into Chicago: This is often much more affordable. Once arrived in Chicago, there is a very convenient coach bus that will take you directly to Madison in about 3 hours. Look for the “Bus/Shuttle Center.” The last stop is just a 2 minute walk to the French House. (Please note, if you arrive late into Chicago, you may not be able to take a bus that same day.)

Cost:

PFMP participants: Your cost is $19/night.

PHAGES meeting participants:  Your cost will be funded by the UW-Madison Center for Interdisciplinary French Studies.

Passport photo for PHAGES participants: Une pensée à garder en tête. In order for us to fund this lodging, we will eventually need a copy of your passport (showing your photo, birthdate, etc.) as well as a copy of the page with the entry stamp (tampon d’entrée). Sometime during your stay, please give us those photocopies. If you need help finding a photocopier, your conference organizers should be able to help.  Merci d’avance !

Contact information:  Your email confirmation will contain contact information for your host at the French House.
